Dragonfly Nature Study

Down by the pond where the cattails grow, a dragonfly dances on glittering wings. This study begins right there, at the water’s edge, and follows one small creature through one remarkable life.

Over ten days, your child watches the dragonfly climb from the mud into the light, learns how its compound eyes see in nearly every direction at once, discovers the four wings that let it hover and fly backward, and finds out why farmers half a world away in the Mekong Delta have trusted this little weather messenger for thousands of years. Along the way there are movement games, a mosquito-hunter lab, a silk-inspired paddy painting, a glowing sun catcher, and a batch of chocolate dragonfly pretzels to celebrate the journey.
