How to Choose a Nature Based Homeschool Curriculum (Without the Overwhelm)
We are deep in the middle of winter, and if you are like many of the parents I talk to, you might be feeling a little restless.
Maybe you promised yourself that 2026 would be the year you finally got outside more. Maybe you are scrolling through Pinterest, looking for a nature based homeschool curriculum that doesn’t require you to be an expert botanist or own a 40-acre homestead.
I have good news. You do not need to be an expert. You just need a guide.
Why Choose a Nature Curriculum? When families start looking for a homeschool nature curriculum, they often worry that it will be “just playing.” But for our littlest learners, play is the highest form of research.
A good preschool nature curriculum does more than just get them fresh air. It teaches:
-
Observation: Noticing that the snow is sparkling because of light reflection.
-
Empathy: Wondering if the birds are cold and learning how to help them.
-
Science: Understanding that water turns to ice when the temperature drops.
What to Look for in a Curriculum
There are a lot of options out there. As you search for the right nature curriculum, homeschool moms often tell me they get stuck on the “prep work.” If a lesson takes 2 hours to set up, it probably won’t happen!
That is why I created Farm School Monthly.
I wanted to give you a “living” curriculum that is open-and-go. In our January Winter on the Farm pack, we don’t just give you a list of topics. We give you the videos, the crafts, the science labs, and the exact script to say to your kids.
We cover real-world biology, like how animals use “straw” vs. “hay” to stay warm, and we do it in a way that feels like a cozy story time rather than a science lecture.
If you are ready to bring the farm to your kitchen table this winter, come join us. Let’s make this the year we actually get outside!
