Starfish Nature Study

Some stars do not live in the sky. They rest in the tide pools, spread across the rocky floor where the waves roll in and out. This study turns your child into a “Star-Seeker,” walking the shore not just to look at animals but to notice the sky’s oldest cousins.

Over ten unhurried days, your young naturalist discovers how a sea star pumps seawater through its body instead of blood, how it walks on hundreds of tiny tube feet, and how it can grow back a whole new arm. Along the way you will meet Aristotle on the shores of Greece, study the symmetry that captivated the artist Ernst Haeckel, paint and sculpt your own sea stars, and bake a batch of sugared “starry” cookies together.
